Databac Group, specialist provider of complete solutions for identification, today launches into the UK a new outdoor biometric terminal for access control and time and attendance that uses a unique combination of technologies. The new Rimax Palm Scan Outdoor combines voice recognition, palm print verification and motion detection in a single, multi-layered solution that offers unparalleled levels of security.
Palm Scan Outdoor is ideal for use in prisons, banks, airports, hospitals and military installations, as well as housing developments, golf clubs, industrial estates, car parks and other areas where security is a prime concern.
Databac Group managing director Charles Balcomb said: "Palm Scan Outdoor is extremely secure and reliable. By applying cross-technology verification, security levels are multiplied. Furthermore, it unites cutting-edge biometrics with user-friendly operation. There is nothing else in the industry like it."
Despite employment of advanced biometric technologies, operation is remarkably simple. The reader is activated when it detects movement within a range of 20cm. The system then plays a voice message requesting the person to say a predetermined code word, such as a name or date of birth. The spoken code is checked and, if accepted, another message requests palm verification. The person simply holds his/her palm up to the reader to gain entry. The whole process takes seconds.
Operation is completely contactless. This allows Palm Scan Outdoor to be mounted in a hermetic terminal, making it vandal-proof, weather-proof and hygienic. If required, it can also be used indoors.
Palm Scan Outdoor can also be programmed to operate lighting, alarm and other electronic systems.
Palm Scan Outdoor is priced from £1,000, around three times less than iris technology, placing it within reach of even smaller enterprises.

Editors' notes
Palm Scan Outdoor is part of the Palm Scan range which was launched in the UK by exclusive distributor Databac Group in October 2006. Palm Scan offers a state-of-the-art contactless solution for access control and time and attendance, for up to 2,100 users. Boasting a false rejection rate of less than 0.1 per cent, Palm Scan is exceptionally efficient. Unlike other hand-based technologies, Palm Scan reads the lines, scars, wrinkles and folds on the surface of the palm and uses them to build a map unique to the user. Three versions are available: Palm Scan Window, Palm Scan Indoor and Palm Scan Outdoor. The Window version features 10 ultrasound (contactless) keys, which can be programmed to identify activities like lunch breaks in time and attendance applications or to add pin codes for access control. Palm Scan Indoor is the same but has standard keys which need to be pressed. Palm Scan Outdoor features the reader only and now comes with voice recognition.
