Polyester / PET / PETG
Other materials:
Polyester is a thermoplastic polymer commonly referring to polyethylene terephthalate (PET). Composed of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, PET is recyclable. It is also suitable for thermal disposal, as it contains no harmful toxins.
PET vs PVC
Besides being environmentally-friendly, PET's key properties are strength and flexibility, making it ideal for card manufacture. Though more expensive than PVC, it is less prone to cracking and breaking, more temperature stable, lasts longer and is more environmentally-friendly.
Long lifespan
Polyester cards are suitable for long-life applications or where cards need to withstand a certain amount of duress, such as government ID, military credentials, construction access, passports, driving licences and national ID.
Recognising their superior qualities, Databac has been promoting the use of polyester materials for card manufacture for decades and many of our branded card products are made using PET (such as Melinex) and PETG.
Polyethylene terepthalate glycol, or PETG, is a clear amorphous thermoplastic that produces cards that look as good as PVC.
Our polyester cards
Our polyester cards include TOUGH card, constructed of flexible layers of PETG and polyethylene, and DuraCard 100, a strong platten-pressed polyester card, both suitable for direct printing. Our rewritable card Data ReWrite can be made using polyester materials.
