Wiegand Wire
Other technologies
Description
Wiegand Wire is secure yet relatively low-cost technology. Wiegand cards are used in manufacturing plants, government facilities, hospitals, airports and other institutions where security is a primary concern. Databac is licensed to manufacture and supply both polyester and PVC ID badges incorporating Wiegand technology.
How does it work?
Depending on the number of wires in the code strip, several hundred million codes can be created. When the badge is exposed to a changing magnetic field, it induces a strong, discrete electrical output in a small pick-up coil located nearby. The location of the wire in the code strip determines whether the output signal is read as a 'one' or a 'zero' in the binary code.
Code strips are factory encoded and buried within the card, making duplication or counterfeit virtually impossible. Attempts to reach the wires will destroy the card and impair the unique pulse-generating properties of the wire.
Wiegand technology is immune to stray magnetic fields, radio interference and other external influences.
